Get funding for apprenticeship training
Apprenticeships are a cost-effective way to develop your workforce, and the Government provides financial support to help cover training and assessment costs. Whether you’re a levy-paying employer or not, you can access funding and additional payments to make apprenticeships work for your business.
What funding is available?
The amount of funding you can access depends on whether you pay the apprenticeship levy or not.
Apprenticeship Levy is an amount paid at a rate of 0.5% of an employer’s annual pay bill.
As an employer, you have to pay the apprenticeship levy each month if you:
have an annual pay bill of more than £3 million.
are connected to any companies or charities for Employment Allowance purposes and have a combined annual pay bill of more than £3 million.
For non-levy employers
- The Government will fund all of the apprenticeship training costs (up to the funding band maximum) for apprentices who are aged between 16 and 21 years old when they start their apprenticeship training.
- Payments are made directly to the training provider, and you’ll agree on a payment schedule with them.
For levy-paying employers
- Employers with an annual wage bill over £3 million contribute 0.5% of their payroll to the apprenticeship levy.
- Funds are managed through the Apprenticeships Service Account, and the Government adds an additional 10% to your contributions.
- These funds can be used to cover training and assessment costs for apprentices.
Additional incentives
You could also receive £1,000 in additional funding to support apprentices in the workplace if you take on an apprentice:
- aged 16 to 18
- aged 19 to 24 who has either:
- previously been in care
- an education, health and care plan
